Privacy Policy
Effective Date: August 18, 2026
Scorecard ("the App") is operated by Golf with Scorecard, LLC ("we," "us"). This policy explains what information we collect when you use the App, how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices you have.
1. Information We Collect
Information you provide
- Account information: name and/or display name, email address, or your Apple/Google account identifier if you use Sign in with Apple/Google.
- Golf activity you record: scores, rounds, courses played, statistics, and playing partners. Please note that if you record the names or photos of playing partners, you are responsible for having their permission; this information stays in your account and is not used by us for any other purpose.
- Communications: messages you send to support.
- Profile and shared content: your display name and profile photo, and content you share with other users (shared scorecards, group play, leaderboards, comments). Shared content is visible to the users you share it with.
- Course problem reports: free text with optional photos submitted by users to alert us of issues either on the course or with the scoring system (i.e. par information).
Information collected automatically
- Location data: With your permission, the App uses your device's GPS to sort nearby golf courses by distance and support course auto-detection. This is a one-time, on-device calculation performed each time you use the feature — your precise location is processed locally on your device and is never transmitted to or stored on our servers, and we do not share it with any third party, including our service providers or advertising partners. We do not access your location in the background when the App is closed, and we do not track your location over time. Separately, when you use the App, our servers and service providers derive a general, city-level location from your device's IP address (see Section 3). This is much less precise than GPS and is not connected to the on-device location described above.
- Device and usage data: device model, OS version, app version, IP address, general (city-level) location derived from IP, session and crash data, and how you interact with features.
- Identifiers: device identifiers. We do not use the Apple advertising identifier (IDFA) for tracking or personalized advertising.
2. How We Use Information
- Provide the App: save your scores and history, sync across devices, show nearby courses and course data.
- Operate and improve: debugging, crash analysis, understanding which features are used, developing new features.
- Sponsorship: the App is free and supported by per-round sponsor placements, described in Section 3. We do not use your information to personalise ads.
- Communicate with you: service announcements, responses to support requests, and, only with your consent, marketing messages.
- Safety and legal: enforce our Terms of Use, prevent abuse and fraud, and comply with legal obligations.
- Community Moderation: review reported content and enforce our community rules.
3. Who We Share Information With
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. We share information only with:
-
Service providers that host and operate the App on our behalf:
- Firebase (Google Cloud) — Hosting, Firestore, Cloud Functions, Authentication, Storage, App Check/reCAPTCHA
- Sentry — error/crash tracking
- PostHog — product analytics
- golfcourseapi.com — course data (search, tee/yardage info)
- Google Workspace — business inboxes (support@, hello@, alerts@)
- Resend — transactional/product email (welcome emails, alerts, waitlist)
- Legal and safety: when required by law, legal process, or to protect rights, safety, or property.
- Business transfers: if we are acquired or merge, your information may transfer with the business; this policy will continue to apply until updated.
Sponsorships in the App take the form of per-round sponsor placements (for example, a round "presented by" a sponsor) rather than personalized banner ads. Rounds are assigned to sponsors automatically, either at random or on a rotation designed to give sponsors fair coverage. This assignment is not based on your individual profile, activity, or characteristics. Sponsors do not receive click- or impression-level data tied to you individually; they receive only aggregate figures, such as the total number of times their sponsorship was shown across all users over a given period.
4. Your Choices
- App Tracking Transparency: The App does not track you across other companies' apps, so iOS will not show you a tracking prompt.
- Location: You can withdraw location permission at any time in iOS Settings. The App will still work, but course auto-detection and distance-based sorting will be unavailable. As noted above, we never receive or store your precise location regardless of this setting.
5. Data Retention
We keep your account data and golf history for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we immediately delete your login information (email, profile photo) and your profile (display name, avatar). You won't be able to sign back in, and we won't hold your credentials.
Limited records may be kept for legal, security, or accounting purposes, or to investigate or defend against a claim, prevent fraud, or enforce our Terms (retained no longer than two (2) years). Rounds shared with other users. If you play a round with other Golf with Scorecard users, your name may still appear on that round for them — deleting your account removes your profile link, not their record of a round you played together.
Within 30 days, we also delete any rounds you played alone, and any course reports or photos you submitted. (Report text may be kept in de-identified form to help other golfers — with your account information removed.)
Residual copies may persist in encrypted backups before being overwritten in the normal backup cycle.
6. Account Deletion
You can delete your account at any time in the App: Profile → Delete Account. Deletion removes your account and personal data as described in Section 5. You may also email support@golfwithscorecard.com to request deletion.
7. Security
We use commercially reasonable safeguards to protect your information. No system is perfectly secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
8. Your Privacy Rights (United States Laws)
Depending on your state (including California, Colorado, Connecticut, Texas, Virginia, and others), you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or obtain a copy of your personal information. To exercise these rights, use the in-app controls described above or contact us at support@golfwithscorecard.com. We will not discriminate against you for exercising your rights. If we deny your request, you may appeal by replying to our decision.
9. Children
The App is intended for users who are 18 years of age or older. Golf with Scorecard does not knowingly permit anyone under 18 to create an account, and we do not knowingly collect or maintain account-level personal information from anyone under 18.
If we learn that an account belongs to, or was created by, someone under 18, we will terminate the account and delete the associated personal information without undue delay.
This does not prevent an adult user from entering the name or score of a minor as a playing partner in their own round (for example, a parent tracking their child's round) — that minor does not hold an account or provide any information to us directly. Responsibility for any such content rests with the adult user who posts it, consistent with Section 3 of our Terms of Use.
If you believe a minor has created an account, or that we have inadvertently collected a minor's personal information, contact us at support@golfwithscorecard.com and we will investigate and delete it.
10. Changes to This Policy
We will post any changes here and update the Effective Date. For material changes, we will notify you in the App or by email before the change takes effect.
